“Recently we have sought to promote the profile of treated timber which is at the very heart of the fencing industry. As you would have seen in the last issue of Fencing News we have made our stance very clear concerning Use Class 4 timber products. We have instructed our sawmills to purchase only prime Redwood for this product. We have sticking lines, kilns and treatment facilities all situated on our Latvian terminal for this purpose. After sticking of every layer the goods go to our kilns for drying to below the critical moisture level of 28%. The goods are then treated at Westbank Timbers own treatment centre where we are able to monitor the procedure. The main element of any treatment is the treatment solution itself! After many months of investigation Westbank have concluded that the German treatment KORASIT is by far the most effective treatment on the market at present. Although relatively new to the UK, Kora have more than 50 years of experience in wood preservation. They have supplied trade and industry on the continent as far back as 1948. Their products include the excellent KORASIT CCON wood preservative, which fully complies with BS 8417 and has the full backing of the WPA wood protection association. We are happy when our customers are happy and from the resounding endorsements we receive on a daily basis we are having success in our campaign. More Fencing Merchants are now becoming aware of their responsibility, to comply with the UC4 procedures when offering timber for in ground contact. Also Contractors are making it abundantly clear, that if they order in ground products they should be treated to UC4. It is incumbent on all parties in the chain of supply to ensure treated products fully comply with UC4 standards and are fit for purpose. A further development at Westbank is our Oak Products Terminal. Here Oak Products are now stocked for immediate delivery. Products such as Sleepers, Gate Posts and Tree Stakes are all available alongside our Industrial Bog Mats for heavy-duty site work. 2009 will also see us introduce an exciting new range of pre-painted garden buildings and European panels. Available in a range of colours they look great and are virtually maintenance free. It is worth mentioning all our manufactured products reach our customers in pristine condition. It is one thing to have big stockpiles available in the UK but unless it is stored in warehouses as we do, stock can quickly look as if its two years old before it even reaches the customer. As well as all this, Westbank has also diversified into renewable fuels! Last year we teamed up with Lantmannen Renewable Fuels and we now supply stockists with Agrol Heat Logs and Wood Pellets. This has proved to be a case of perfect timing as consumers are switching to wood burning stoves and boilers and the availability of wood logs has declined. We continue to build on our successes, such as the now wellestablished multidrop facility, which has expanded across the UK and now operates weekly. For customers wishing to minimise outlay and maximise profits this has proved to be a real lifeline. Ultimately we know our past and future success is down to you, our customers and we wholeheartedly believe in our motto. “Westbank, Guided By Our Customers.” For more information visit www.westbanktimber.co.uk |
